Advanced Diagnostics

WIDE RANGE OF ACCURATE PET DIAGNOSTICS

In a commitment to bring you superior veterinary care, we house a variety of progressive diagnostic technologies that could ultimately save your pet's life. Veterinary tools like digital X-rays, Ultrasound , and a complete onsite veterinary laboratory provide us with the means to accurately diagnose and treat your furry friend with great efficiency and skill.

DIGITAL X-RAY ADVANTAGES

Veterinary digital X-rays, or radiographs, capture images of your pet's bones, joints, and organs to help our trusted veterinarians evaluate the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, reproductive, and urinary systems. Far more advanced than traditional X-ray machines, digital X-ray equipment offers numerous added benefits, including:

    • A much quicker process
    • Less anesthesia and less time under anesthesia
    • Less exposure to radiation
    • Immediate results that appear digitally on a computer
    • Email capabilities to send to you or our board-certified radiologist consultant
    • More precise visibility of images
    • Higher diagnostic accuracy
    • More prompt diagnosis
    • Speedier road to treatment and recovery

SMALL ANIMAL ULTRASOUND

We use a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine to look for problems in your pet’s abdomen. The procedure is non-invasive and rarely requires sedation so it is very safe for your pet. Our skilled veterinarians and veterinary team will read your pet’s results and determine the best course of action.
Projecting internal images onto a monitor noninvasively, pet ultrasound can aid us in determining:

    • Complicated pet conditions or diseases
    • Tumor detection
    • Health of organs
    • Animal pregnancy

We can also use ultrasound as a monitoring tool to keep tabs on improving or worsening conditions.
In addition to such modern diagnostic services, we can also provide you with a consultation from a board-certified radiology specialist regarding your pet's digital X-ray or ultrasound results.

IN HOUSE LABORATORY

Sierra Animal Hospital is equipped with its own laboratory equipment. We can perform in-house CBCs and Chemistry panels, and have the results before the end of your appointment.

We are pleased to announce the acquisition of the latest technology in diagnostic lab equipment. The new Idexx Sediview analyzer means that we can do a urinalysis in house, with results in 15 minutes, while you wait. More importantly, we can have the urine sediment analyzed while the specimen is still fresh, instead of waiting for it to be examined in the lab. Our innovative new machine uses Facial Recognition Technology to take and interpret dozens of photographs of each sample, identifying & labeling crystals, bacteria, epithelial cells, plus red & white blood cells. It is able to identify delicate pathological structures called casts that often break apart during transit to the lab. The urinalysis is considered to be one of the most important tests to run on a twice yearly basis. Remember to bring in a specimen so that we can include it in your pet’s regular exam!
